Trebbiano Spoletino

Wine list - Focus on native vines

Trebbiano Spoletino is a grape variety historically present in the area of Spoleto and Montefalco, which was characterized by a "alberata”, an ancient cultivation method that used elm or maple trees as supports. Recently rediscovered, it is a grape variety that produces wines with fresh and elegant aromas, with fruity notes, tropical hints, good expressive complexity, and vibrant acidity. From a genetic point of view, it is very different from the Tuscan Trebbiano, the Trebbiano di Soave or the Trebbiano Abruzzese. It is a lateripening grape, which even at full phenolic maturity, always maintains very high acidity and a low pH. For this reason, it is very versatile and suitable for producing sparkling wines, still wines, passito and vinsanto. Its extraordinary oenological versatility allows for numerous stylistic interpretations, with classic white vinifications, skin macerations, and aging in steel, wood, or terracotta dolia. This is also why it is one of the most interesting native white grape varieties in Umbria. It also has excellent aging potential, with interesting developments towards notes of citrus zest, tropical fruit, resin, flint, and hydrocarbons.
