Surrounded by green hills, oak woods and olive groves, homeland of the famous condottiere Braccio Fortebracci, the village of Montone suddenly appears to the visitor going up the short but steep climb. Noble, graceful, austere, it is a medieval unique picture composed of ancient houses, wonderful churches and monasteries hidden by majestic walls. Walk through the quietness of the narrow and shady alleyways, decorated with roses and geranium, and dip yourself into the rhythm of past times. But don’t be surprised if the silence fades as you converge towards the
square, in which the many voices of the village merge. The enchanting city centre is the setting of important international cultural events (Umbria Film Festival), handcraft fairs and markets (Festa del bosco) and evocative historical/religious events (Donazione della Santa Spina).
